Geoff and Keith of Opossum Creek Retreat

We know a stay in the mountains of West Virginia can make a difference, because our guests tell us all the time. Let us make a difference for you.

From the beginning, Opossum Creek Retreat has been a hands-on, family owned and operated business. Our goal is to provide a quality, comfortable, unique lodging experience that allows you to escape from your world and experience nature up close and personal with all the amenities of home. We have strong ties to our community and a commitment to contribute to its betterment, its schools and the environment.

We pride ourselves on providing first rate customer service. Your hosts, Geoff and Keith, are accessible, knowledgeable and available to help in any way they can.

Meet the Braintrust

Geoff Heeter had lived all over the United States by the time he graduated from high school. His wanderlust led him to continue traveling extensively at home and abroad, until finding and falling love with the New River Gorge area. Fortunately, his wife Kyle, a Colorado native, also fell in love with the area. They are proud to call West Virginia their home and are happily raising their kids, Erin and Cameron, here in Fayette County.

Geoff states “I had been looking for a place just like Opossum Creek Retreat to take my family, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. So, I created it.” This business has been his passion ever since. His hard work was recognized when he received the Gene Coulson Hospitality Award, which is awarded annually at the West Virginia Tourism Conference to an outstanding member of the hospitality industry. He still takes his family to Opossum Creek Retreat to get away.

A nature lover and outdoorsman, he co-founded the West Virginia Birding Festival, and makes sure to get out and add a bird or two to his life list now and then. He also enjoys hunting birds and deer and occasionally gets lucky. Camping, hiking, fishing and biking with his family keep him busy when he is not improving Opossum Creek Retreat.

He is active in the community, serving on the board of the New River Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Keith Richardson came on board in 2005 to help Geoff with his expanding business. Most of you have spoken to him on the phone; all of you can consider him your go-to guy if you have any questions or concerns.

Born and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania, he moved to Florida where he worked for Disney, an experience that helped him refine his customer service expertise. There he met his wife, Tammi, a native of New River country. When their daughter Alex was born, they decided they wanted a better quality of life in which to raise their child, so they moved back in 1992.

Keith is very active in his church, is also an avid outdoorsman and a darn good volleyball coach to boot.

Keith brings a calm, easy-going disposition and first rate people skills to the table. His formidable phone skills have allowed Geoff to step back from the day-to-day management of the business and focus on the big picture.
