Hawks Nest State Park
Go west on Rt. 60 (Midland Trail) through Ansted to this little State Park which features hiking, golf, and great views of the gorge.
Gondola Ride
Right there at Hawk’s Nest you’ll find this inexpensive thrill. Kids love to take the gondola down to the river.
New River Jet Boats
The gondola will take you right to this business, which provides a great way to explore the New River. Your captain will take you up river and give you great info about the history of the gorge.
Mystery Hole
Continue west on Rt. 60 and you’ll see the Mystery Hole on your left. A small fee will get you into this goofy, fun, kitschy local institution. See the laws of gravity defied!
Lunch in Ansted
Try the Sub Shack for a home-made sandwich.
Mill Creek Trail
If you still have some energy to burn, head back east to Ansted. Turn if front of city hall (ask anyone!) and follow the signs to the Mill Creek Trailhead. A gradual two mile hike will take you down to the river. Be sure to take your camera—gorgeous.
Opossum Creek Retreat
Time to hit the hot tub and grill some dinner.
