Area Attractions
Here’s a guide to some of our favorite New River Gorge attractions
Not just things to do- cool things to do
Somebody said that there were 700 attractions in southern West Virginia. That sounds made-up to us, but there are enough attractions to satisfy every interest.
There’s so much to do, you have to be sure to schedule time for relaxation on your itinerary (That’s a good thing).
In And Around the New River Gorge
Vacations here take place in and around the New River Gorge National Park. There’s plenty to see and do in the park itself, from visitor’s centers on the rim, to interpretive hikes on trails that wind through the canyon, and floating on the river below.
But don’t limit yourself to the park! We live in a vibrant community, and there’s always something going on. We have great fun with our community theatre, art shows, and festivals.
You can take a biplane ride, check out a roadside attraction, and play some frustratingly good golf courses. The area is chock full of scenic drives in the country, too.
And of course there’s the nearby Exhibition Coal Mine, the New River Jet Boats, the Tamarack, and the list goes on and on. There is truly something for everyone.
Way Out in West Virginia
Our rental cabins are in the heart of the New River Gorge, which is central to just about everything in West Virginia. Want to explore a little further away? There’s a lot to see all over the state.
Within an hour’s drive are the cities of Charleston and Lewisburg. Charleston is the capitol city, well worth a visit for nationally touring shows or statewide culture. Lewisburg is home to a large artisan community- it’s filled with shops and restaurants for browsing and buying.
Shopping and Dining
Our area has great shops and restaurants. First, take a walk through downtown Fayetteville and see what there is to see. After that, you can drive in pretty much any direction- you’ll still be in the heart of Appalachian antiquing country.
What would we be without our great food? We have the quintessential cafe right in the middle of town. Tons of great places to eat, lunch or dinner, surround our mountain community.
Check Us Out
We’re a great home base for all this stuff. Think of Opossum Creek as the perfect way to find yourself- in the middle of nowhere.
